Farewell to Frederick - Farmrail in HO Scale
Переглядів 4,1 тис.Рік тому
All good things must come to an end. Back in December, I dismantled my HO scale shelf layout depicting Frederick, OK on the Farmrail/Grainbelt System. I made sure to take some video, so come along as I switch some cars, talk about what and who inspired me on this project, and discuss some lessons learned. And don't worry... the new layout is already well under way.
Farmrail in HO Scale - A Railfan's Perspective
Переглядів 1,9 тис.2 роки тому
Its 2010. The nice lady at the Farmrail HQ told us we could find a crew working the south end. So we hopped in the pickup, refilled on gas and sweet tea on our way out of Clinton, and beat feet for Frederick. We arrived just in time on this very hot afternoon to catch the crew doing some switching in town.

East Penn in HO Scale Bookshelf Layout - New Locomotive and Operations!

I found this locomotive in a hobby shop in Pennsylvania while on vacation and just had to have it! These Atlas engines run like Swiss watches. I’ll shuffle a few cars and show y’all how a small layout like this can provide a solid little operating session. No editing or music, just running a train on a lazy afternoon.

Welcome back to my model railroad depicting Grainbelt (Farmrail) operations in Frederick, OK around 1999! While no model railroad is ever truly finished, I'm ready to declare this project MOSTLY done. Scenery and structures are all complete, as are most of the important details. Follow along as I show the layout, as well as an in-depth operating session. Please "like", subscribe, and share this...
Farmrail in HO Scale - Shelf Layout Operations on Valentines Day

My lovely wife joined me for a short, informal operating session on the layout. She was the "engineer" at the controls, while I planned the switching moves and threw the turnouts as the "conductor." This is a little different than my usual layout update videos. Model railroading is fun, and its even better with family. We had lots of fun running trains together (while we wait on our baby girl t...

I've been living in Aberdeen, NC for a couple years now, and its a wonderful small town with a rich railroad history and plenty of action for a railfan to enjoy. These are some clips I took with my iPhone of various trains around town, starting with the famed and history Aberdeen & Rockfish. I'll also visit CSX's Aberdeen Subdivision mainline, showcase the class act Aberdeen, Carolina & Western...

Farmrail in HO Scale - Clinton Switching Layout
Переглядів 14 тис.4 роки тому
My recently dismantled switching layout, based on the Palmetto Spur project layout from Lance Mindheim's "How to Build a Switching Layout." This layout depicted a slice of an industrial park just south of Clinton, OK on the Farmrail System. The industrial park serves a variety of oilfield suppliers for the Anadarko Basin. This was an incredibly fun model railroad to build, hope you enjoy!
Farmrail Clinton to Elk City on the old Rock Island
Переглядів 2,3 тис.6 років тому
On March 7th, 2018, I caught some hard working EMDs out on the plains of western Oklahoma! This Farmrail train was headed from the company hub at Clinton, OK west to Elk City, OK, loaded down with fracking sand and drilling fluids. Four GP38s (two owned, two leased) of Iowa Interstate and Union Pacific heritage provided the power. On the hills they really got to working hard. This is Farmrail's...

Hi there. Just wanted to say how impressive your former layout was. Iv watched most of your videos and very inspiring. Just wanted to ask what the radius you worked to on the curves to create the L shape of the layout? Trying to work something similar for a plan in a very small room. Cheers

John Armstrong suggested, that Suggestive Ommission was the next step beyond Selective Compression. No matter the size of your layout, the thing is that you are enjoying the hobby! It's better to have a little bit of something, than all of nothing. It may not check all the boxes, however you can enjoy what you have! Such a cute lite lady! 11:23

Living in Fayetteville and passing through Aberdeen on my way to Southern Pines, I can see some familiarity of rural NC in your layout. I'm inspired to build a similar layout to make use of my limited free space and time.

As a Brit who models American Railroads and your take on a smaller layout and how you fit it all in. I can take away so many ideas and how to do it plus the American way railways are run. Great video especially the back story to justify your layout. Thank you for sharing.

This was a very nice shelf layout. And thank you for providing the information on the shelving under it. I read all the posts, so no need to tell me, for the 18th time, the dimensions of the layout! Thank you for the video. I'm now enjoying and gathering ideas from the "Somewhere Down South" layout...........

Very nice shelf layout, thank you for making these videos. * subscribed * And it's nice to see your wife enjoying model trains with you, and as I'm planning my first layout, I'm hoping my wife will find this hobby enjoyable enough for 1 or 2 operating sessions per month.

Great little layout that makes sense. I also like seeing a small layout with a rural southern theme. My N scale layout is 1970s industrial New England, but the HO switching layout I'm planning is looking to be a southeast or south-central road in a rural setting like this. Great job!

Hi, I'm just starting my shelf layout and this is perfect just what I was looking for as my run around was just to big for my small home, I started collecting Southern HO and few other's a while ago and as a Brit I really had no idea about American Railways , I think I was just hooked on the Southern colour scheme and how well your Loco's run, if you don't mind I have couple of questions, what's a team track' and what if any other road names would have rubbed shoulders with Southern rail back in the day, I'm going for the 50's 60's era give or take, 40ft box cars and GP and RS locos , great layout and thanks for sharing this , Gavin

Your work reminds me of the intense detail of lance Mindheims layout! You deserve to have a bigger layout: preferably that whole room 😂😂! Oh I feel you on the time that goes into having a full time job and raising kids . So eager to see this grow. Your yet another model railroader raising the bar really high 😅😅. Made it seem like I was there at that grade crossing

Add a couple of vertical curves (dips and drops) in the rail. The trick is to make sure that the I shape stays straight up and down .Too many people let the rail slightly roll over while dipping, this will only lead to constant derailments.

Very nice. One thing you could do is to pull it out from the wall and add a loop (fold down if need be) to create some come and go staging or continuous running for breaking in or just watching trains run.

First time viewer but absolutely love this! Hearing you talk about balancing the hobby with family life made me feel fortunate about being a 20-something with no responsibilities, but at the same time I think the fact you have a loving family makes you even more fortunate than me. Awesome job with the scenery, feels realistic that the railroad would just pair all those industries on one track to save money on building individual spurs. The road crossing looks lovely and convincing. I believe what you were trying to say with the look of the house and the pre built structures offered is that they feel too "whimsical", like they're too happy and feel more in place with the Boomer era of the 50s where it's all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. The house you used feels perfectly in place as a small shack hidden in the Southern East coast woods. Great layout! Great use of track planning! Great use of rolling stock and great presentation overall! You've got a subscriber.

He scratch builds everything and gives advice on how to do it realistically and make the buildings last forever.
